2nd Summer School on Suspension & Solution Spraying in Trollhättan, September 2021

Because of the COVID - 19 pandemic, we have to shift the Sommer School on September 2021. The precise date wll be given later.

It is with great enthusiasm that we invite you to the 2020 Summer School on Suspension & Solution Thermal Spraying, to be held in Trollhättan, Sweden during 16–18 September, 2020.

Developing on the success of the previous ‘Summer School on Suspension & Solution Thermal Spraying’ held in Trollhättan in 2016, this event will bring together people from both academia and industry. This summer school will include lectures from experts in the field of thermal spraying covering all major aspects of liquid feedstock spraying, ranging from fundamentals and process diagnostics to characterisation and applications. The school will also include a demonstration of the state-of-the-art liquid feedstock plasma spraying equipment available at University West.

Thermal spraying of liquid feedstock in the form of a suspension or a solution has gained vital interest among the scientific and industrial community, especially during the last decade. Employing a liquid feedstock results in unique microstructural features which are significantly different as compared to the conventional coatings created by a powder feedstock resulting in enhanced functional performance. The ability of this approach to develop coatings with diverse functionalities (thermal barrier, environment barrier, wear resistant, superhydrophobic, biocompatible, etc.) has already been established. The initial throughput and deposition efficiency related concerns associated with the method have also been overcome as a consequence of significant advances in both thermal spray equipment and feedstock preparation. A few key application domains which would benefit from thermal spraying with liquid feedstock include aerospace, biomedicine, energy conversion, automotive, etc.

Trollhättan is home to a number of high-tech companies, such as GKN Aerospace (producing jet engines and developing rocket engine technology) and NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden – developing its platform for the future generation of electric cars in the former SAAB Automobile factory). In fact, 90% of the world’s aeroplanes contain parts manufactured in Trollhättan. The School venue and participants’ accommodation will be conveniently located close to the city centre, eliminating need for time-consuming and costly transportation.

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Trollhättan during 16–18 September 2020!

Special Issue on Cold Spray Coatings

    Dear ETSA members,

The journal /Coatings/ (ISSN 2079-6412) is currently running a special issue entitled "Cold Gas Spray Coatings: Fundamentals and Applications": https://www.mdpi.com/journal/coatings/special_issues/cold_gas_spray_coat

I am serving as Guest Editor for this issue. Based on your expertise in this field, we kindly invite you to contribute a paper (i.e., either a long review or a research paper). /Coatings/ is fully open access and charges Article Processing Charges (APC) of 1600 CHF per accepted paper. However, as guest editor, I am allowed to solicit a number of key contributions, which could be published *with 20% discount* in this Issue. If you decide to submit your manuscript, *a 20% discount off the APC* can be applied on this occasion. We believe your contribution will add value to this special issue and to the journal as well.
The submission deadline is 29 February 2020. You may send your manuscript now or up until the deadline. The paper will be published immediately upon final acceptance.

Please find more details in attached file.
